The Heart of Georgia Altamaha, in association with the Department of Labor, provides services to jobseekers under the directive of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The goals of the WIA are to improve the quality of the workforce, enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the local workforce, and to reduce welfare dependency. The WIA program provides training and employment services to employers and economically disadvantaged individuals (both adults and youth), assists dislocated workers when a plant has a large layoff or shuts down, and coordinates OneStop Career Centers.
